Qatar- International meet on primary care this week

Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will host a first of its kind international conference in Doha this week, with an aim to enhance medical practices and skills of health care providers.

The Primary Care International Conference will begin on November 17, under the theme ‘Healthier Communities Brighter Future' is expected to gather more than 750 local and international experts, Dr Mariam Abdul Malek, Managing Director of PHCC, said yesterday.

The three-day conference will be held under the patronage of Minister of Public Health H E Dr Hanan Mohamed AI Kuwari.

'The conference will have broad global participation. It is a landmark on primary health care in Qatar and the region, with the participation of worldwide primary health care leaders, said Dr Abdul Malek addressing a press conference held at the Hilton Doha.

She also said that the conference aims at the enhancement of primary health care and family medicine as a base of the modern health system, review most recent scientific and medical developments and outputs in primary care, based on research findings and scientific evidence , to reflect PHCC's commitment continues development of health services and raising the level of awareness and highlighting the importance of healthy lifestyles to build productive communities.

Dr Zulakha AI Wahidi, Excicutive Director of Workforce Training and Development at PHCC, Dr Abdullatif AI Khal, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Head of Infectious Diseases and Director of Medical Education at Hamad Medical Corporation and Nasser Abdulla, Executive Director of Managing Directors Office, PHCC were also present at the press conference.

Approximately 58 seminars and scientific lectures are scheduled to be held as part of the Conference by experts from around the world including countries such as the UK, Canada, US, Australia, and from Oman, Kuwait and Lebanon as well as leading experts from Qatar.

'The Scientific Committee has chosen the theme and list speakers of the conference to gain maximum benefit from international experts in the field. It will include a diverse group of local and international speakers. Among them the local speakers will be from the PHCC, the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Sidra Medicine, and Calgary College of Nursing, said Dr AI Wahidi.

'International experts will be from different countries and they will discuss at four important workshops including on topics related to best medical practices and how to enhance the skills and ability of health care providers, she added.

Also an exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the Primary Care International Conference to showcase advanced technology and practices in health care.
