Over 30 countries to take part in Doha book fair

The 28th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, will kick off on Wednesday, November 29, through December 5, at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, with the participation of more than 30 Arab and foreign countries and hundreds of publishing houses.

Ibrahim Abdulrahim Al Buhashim, Director of Public Libraries and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, who is also Director of the Doha International Book Fair, said that the new round will be held under the theme 'Within the society and the advancement of knowledge, intellectually and scientifically, and is consistent with the vision of the Ministry of Culture and Sports 'towards a conscious society with an authentic conscience and a healthy body.

He said that the exhibition, this year, receives Arab and international attention where there are more than 25 publishing houses on the waiting list so far. At the Arab level, we have a distinguished participation from Jordan, which includes about 48 publishing houses, Oman and Kuwait as well as Maghreb countries, Sudan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

At the international level, there are distinguished participants from a number of countries that have a weight and cultural presence, including the Federal Republic of Germany, where the German culture is the guest of honour of the exhibition as part of the celebration of the events of the cultural year Qatar - Germany 2017, he added.

He said that the audience of the exhibition will be delighted by a special cultural programme offered by the French pavilion. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey will participate extensively as well as a number of Turkish publishing houses, besides distinguished contributions from China, Iran, India, Malaysia and others.

The 28th edition of the exhibition is accompanied by a distinguished cultural programme, in which a group of intellectuals from Qatar and the Arab world, as well as the participation of foreign intellectuals, will take part, he added, noting that the announcement of the cultural programme, statistics of publishing houses and participating countries as well as participants from within the State will be disclosed in detail at a press conference to be held later.

He pointed out that the Fair administration is currently working in preparation for the Doha International Book Fair, which is one of the long standing and most important exhibitions in the Arabian Gulf region, stressing the administration is keen to promote the services and overcome the difficulties facing the participating publishers.

The Doha International Book Fair will be attended by all the State's institutions concerned with publishing and culture, as well as the participation of a special pavilion for the Ministry of Culture and Sports, which will be one of the surprises of this year's edition, where it has been developed in form and content. The most important of which is to focus on the recommendations of the first youth forum, to inform the youth of what has been done so far, as well as listen to their ideas in a way that promotes youth work and achieves the vision of Qatar 2030.
