Azerbaijani customs officials prevent diamond smuggling

Employees of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan prevented an attempt to pass the border, bypassing customs control, with a big batch of contraband diamonds.

The Committee told Trend Nov. 11 that on the basis of information on illegal import of diamond products received by the Customs Control Department of the Main Customs Administration for Air Transport, an Azerbaijani citizen, who arrived via Istanbul-Baku flight, was brought to customs control.

During the personal search, 11 transparent stones of various sizes were found in the citizen's left shoe.

According to the conclusion of the Forensic Science Center of the Ministry of Justice, the stones are diamonds weighing 185.12 carats. An investigation is underway.
