Turkish authorities clamp down on Daesh militants

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTNABUL, Nov 10 (KUNA) -- Turkish security authorities have anew cracked down on suspected elements of the so-called Islamic state (IS) group, also known as "Daesh." State-run Anadolu news agency, citing security sources, said on Friday that anti-terrorism squads launched, at dawn, raids in Istanbul targeting residences and hideouts of 82 suspects.

Detainees are charged with fighting in ranks of the terrorist organization "in conflict regions and planning to go to Syria in the coming few days," according to Anadolu.

All of the detainees are foreigners, it said without elaborating.

The Turkish authorities have repeatedly clamped down on "Daesh" suspects.

The organization has recently lost its main strongholds in Syria and Iraq and latest reports indicate that many of the fighters have hidden in desert regions in the two countries.

Ankara accuses the group of masterminding a series of terrorist attacks in the nation. (end) ta.rk
