Pence, Ghani Discusses Security Situation, Elections


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) WASHINGTON - US Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday spoke with President Ashraf Ghani on the situation in the war-devastated country, the White House said.
They discussed the impact of President Donald Trump's South Asia strategy on the Afghan forces' morale, as well as the Taliban's view of their battlefield capabilities.
During the phone call, a statement from the White House said, Pence commended the Afghans for their bravery and sacrifices in battling the insurgency and international terrorists, such as ISIS and al-Qaida.
Pence highlighted Kabul's continued engagement and progress on necessary reforms, political inclusion and preparations for forthcoming elections -- all critical to providing greater stability and opportunities for Afghanistan.
Pence and Ghani reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the United States and Afghanistan, the White House said. (Pajhwok)
