Kuwait asserts importance of science in addressing mankind challenges


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DEAD SEA, Jordan, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's envoy, Minister of Education Dr. Mohammad Al-Fares said Tuesday the World Science Forum 2017 aimed at utilizing science to address challenges facing growth, stability and global peace.

Al-Fares, also Minister of Higher Education, was speaking to KUNA following Jordanian King Abdullah II's inauguration of the forum, attended by around 3,000 scientists and academics from some 140 countries.

The forum, he added, reflected Jordan's leading role in science.

President of the Forum, Princess Sumayya bint Al-Hassan, said participants in the five-day forum sought to address challenges facing human kind.

The opening ceremony included a video message from the crew of the International Space Station (ISS), who underlined importance of scientific research for the service of human beings.

Participants will be discussing energy and water, food security, challenges facing education and digital transformation.

On the other hand, Al-Fares visited Kuwait Cultural Office in Amman and got acqauinted with follow-up of affairs of 3,948 students in Jordan.

Al-Fares thanked the staff in the Kuwait for their service of students, and said the Cultural office played a great role in cementing educational cooperation with Jordan. (end) ab.bs
