American woman charged for insulting president Mugabe
(MENAFN)An American woman charged with subversion in Zimbabwe for insulting the president on Twitter as a "sick man" is facing the court as her lawyers disputed the charges that carry up to 20 years in prison.
Rose Hanzi, the lawyer for 25-year-old Martha O'Donovan said that the subversion charge was illegal because O'Donovan was not informed of it when she they took her from her home in the capital.
The court disapproved however; and O'Donovan is remaining in custody over the weekend.
O'Donovan, made no statement in court and showed no emotion when the request was dismissed, instead she waved to a small crowd of supporters when she was being escorted into a prison truck.
