Driver smuggling people was detained in Greece
(MENAFN) A van driver claims he was trying to transport 50 Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans into Greece, has been detained.
On Saturday, Greek authorities have seen the van on a highway close to the Turkish border, but when they tried to stop the driver, he went faster; they chased him and stopped him.
Authorities have found in the back of the van 30 men, women and children from Syria, 19 Iraqis and one Afghani.
Police say each refugee has paid 1,500 euro to be transported into Greece, while the driver was charged with risking the passengers' lives.
