Matthew A. Sears

(MENAFN- The Conversation) I work broadly on ancient Greek and Roman politics, society, culture. I have published peer-reviewed articles on ancient history and historiography, ancient warfare, and epic poetry. My first book, "Athens, Thrace, and the Shaping of Athenian Leadership," was published by Cambridge University Press (2013) and explores cross-cultural interactions in the ancient Mediterranean. I have forthcoming an academic guidebook to ancient Greek battlefields (Pen & Sword, 2018) and a scholarly textbook on Greek Warfare (Routledge, 2019).

At the university level, I teach all levels of Greek and Latin language and literature, and all manner of courses on the ancient Greek and Roman world. I also lecture the required first-year Arts course course at UNB, "The Development of Western Thought," and have broad interests in the humanities. I speak and write frequently for general audiences, and have published pieces in the Ottawa Citizen and on ActiveHistory.ca.
