(MENAFN)Local officials in Iraq said on Sunday that thousands of Iraqis were captured and detained in the northern city of Kirkuk by the Kurdish security services when they had control on the city.
Police stations in Kirkuk started receiving thousands of people who arrived to report the "abduction" of their sons by the Kurdish security services without giving answers.
"More than 7,000 people, all of them Arabs or Turkmen, were either detained or abducted in Kirkuk by Assayish (a Kurdish security service) during the years following 2003," Rakan Saeed, the acting governor of Kirkuk, mentioned in a televised interview last week.
"All these cases and violations are registered in the local government records." he added.
