SHARJAH, 5th November, 2017 (WAM) -- The Sharjah Economic Development Department, SEDD, in co-operation with the University of Sharjah, UOS, recently organised a seminar entitled, "Sharjah, Heart of Industry."

The seminar was held to encourage students in the engineering college to engage in work in the industrial sector. It was organised within the framework of the initiatives and directions of SEDD to co-operate with various educational institutions in the emirate, to support the student cadres systematically, and to link the university outputs with the economy and development.

It also comes in accordance with the wise directives and vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to pay attention to human cadres in the emirate and familiarise them with the theoretical framework in economic studies, the practical reality of the main subjects, and the requirements of Sharjah's economy, as well as to qualify them to join the market.

Commenting on this event, Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, said that the Department seeks, through this research co-operation programme, to qualify young cadres and enable them to contribute their research and creativity in the process of sustainable development in the emirate.

In addition, it works to encourage students to conduct non-traditional studies that help them to engage in their working life. Such studies fall within a well-planned strategy that SEDD adopts to prepare trained and qualified national cadres to serve the country and citizens through the provision of training and rehabilitation opportunities to prepare them for what they will face in the future.

He clarified that SEDD has moved, over the past year, from working on increasing licences and controlling markets to leading sustainable development and building the knowledge economy in the emirate. It also seeks to develop mechanisms that can be applied to link scientific research in various fields of the industry, through the exchange of experiences between industry experts and members of the Research and Teaching Authority.

Furthermore, Dr. Muamar Bu Al Tayeb, Vice Director of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies in UoS, clarified that the university has worked on restructuring scientific research with the establishment of several institutes, centres, units and specialised research sections. This was done in order to activate and organise the scientific research process.

He added that UOS has a key role in driving growth and development in various sectors that serve the community, and lead to its development and prosperity.
