ACC U19 Western Region: Oman U19s bowled out for 48 but reach semis


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman U19 boys suffered a massive 101-run defeat in its second match of the ACC U19 Western Region Qualifiers 2017 tournament at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Saturday.

It was Oman's first loss in the event after it had won the opening match against Bahrain by five wickets on Thursday.

On Saturday, playing its concluding Group A game, Oman was bowled out for paltry 48 in 22.3 overs chasing 149 for eight scored by UAE in the match reduced to 33 overs.

Rahul Neelesh was the wrecker-in-chief with five for four runs in his six overs. Kartik Palaniappan took three for five runs. Except for the opening pair of Vikram Nabira (20) and Adeel Abbas (14) none of Oman batsmen could reach double digits.

UAE rode Johnathan Figy's 53 to score 149 for eight. Oman skipper Wasim Ali was the main wicket-taker with three for 15. Mohammed Mohsin Qureshi took two for 27.

UAE topped the group with two wins while Oman finished second in the group with two points gained from its win over Bahrain. It now plays Kuwait in the semifinal on Monday. The winner will meet the winner of the other semifinal between UAE and Qatar. The final is scheduled for Tuesday.

The seven-nation event had Iran, Kuwait, Maldives and Qatar pooled in Group B. Kuwait topped the other group with three wins while Qatar was second with two wins.

The winner of the Western Region will qualify for the 2017 Youth Asia Cup, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from November 11-19. The teams that have been confirmed for the Asia Cup are India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan.
