Afghanistan- Paktia university students create databases

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Computer science department students have designed a system for holding records of exams, process, library and administrative affairs on the university campus in southeastern Paktia province.

The final year students say they developed the databases with teachers' cooperation using the net and programming, Csharp, SQL server and language programs.

The students had been given the assignment for their faculty, but later they expanded it, said one of the students, Mohammad Arif.

He said the database could encompass records about students' exams, semesters and a 85 blank lines form, currently filled up with hand.

He said a student could obtain his diploma and transcript in a single click after graduation. Arif said the system had made easy running the administrative affairs and had prevented interference in student records.

'We made the database with the help of teachers, its use is easy, it organizes administrative works and prevents interference. Our database is little different from that of the Higher Education Ministry's.'

Another member of the group, Qalam Khan, has developed a database for the library of the Paktia university. He said the database made it easy to manage, preserve and keep records of the books.

He said students visiting the library could find a book among thousands of books in no time.

'It is not easy to find a book you need among thousands. This database stores unlimited data, it works better as much as the data increases, it never slows down.'

He said if a student needed a book, he should enter the book's ID, it would show him where it was placed.

Paktia university chancellor Dr. Syed Wali Jalalzai apperceived the students for their work and it showed quality of education had improved.

He said he had seen the two databases, which were helpful in preventing corruption and interference in administrative affairs. He said he had directed the use of the database in all sections of the university.

'I have strongly told the last administrative meeting that we should come out of the outdated system and to avoid wasting time and paper, a database should be developed at any cost.'

The computer science students said if they are facilitated, they can develop databases and other programs for traffic, education, and other departments.
