New quake reported in Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH, 4th November, 2017 (WAM) -- Saudi Arabia on Saturday reported an earthquake and a chain of tremors in the south of the Kingdom, reported the Kuwaiti News Agency, KUNA.

The new quake, measuring three degrees, the second in hours, hit Al-Namas Governorate in the southern region Asir, the Saudi Geological Survey, SGS, said in a statement. It was recorded at a depth 5.4 kilometres.

At dawn on Friday, the authority monitored an earthquake in Al-Namas at a depth of 9.1 kms. No damage was reported as a result of the two quakes.

Hani Zahran, General-Director of Earthquakes and Volcanoes at the SGS, said in remarks published by the local press, today, that a chain of tremors had hit Al-Namas since Friday dawn.

However, he ruled out major quakes urging residents to pursue their daily life as normal.

On October 17th, the survey authority reported a light quake at the Red Sea, off Jeddah, added KUNA.
