SHARJAH, 3rd November, 2017 (WAM) -- The Supreme Organising Committee, SOC, of Arab Women's Sports Tournament, AWST, has said that the tournament is a linchpin for Moroccan female athletes.

The 4th edition of the event will be held in Sharjah from 2nd to 12th February, 2018, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation.

In its ongoing efforts to promote and advance the achievements and aspirations of Arab women in sport, the Supreme Organising Committee, SOC, of AWST visited Rabat to deliver its message of driving excellence in competition and professionalism, as well as building on the strong relationship between Sharjah and Morocco in the field of sports.

The SOC recently organised a press conference in Rabat, Morocco to primarily encourage Moroccan sportswomen and their associations to participate in the largest women's sporting event in the region, which has helped many athletes gain international recognition.

Nada Asker Al Naqbi, Director-General of SWSF, Deputy Head of AWST's SOC, and Head of AWST's Executive Committee, EC, attended the press conference and addressed the latest developments of next year's tournament, as well as the services it will provide to the host of world-class women athletes it is expecting to compete from Morocco, one of its closest allies in the promotion of women in sport.

The SOC emphasised that the Arab Women's Sports Tournament's primary objective is to elevate Arab women's sporting roles in general and Moroccan women in particular.

Among others who attended and took part in the press conference included Fatema Abou Ali, Sports Health Supervisor at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Morocco, Wiam Dislam, Moroccan Taekwondo Champion and flag bearer in the London 2012 Olympics and Bushra Hjaij, Chairperson of the Moroccan Volleyball Association and Mostafa Awrash, Chairman of the Moroccan Basketball Association, whose sports both feature in AWST 2018.

"This visit cements our joint beliefs that Arab women deserve a place on international and global sporting stages and that the AWST is an excellent platform to draw attention to the athletes skills level and the outstanding support and organisation of the event itself," Al Naqbi added.
