Unesco Artist for Peace Marcel Khalife shares his music tonight with the Doha audience as he performs at the 101-piece Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra's sold-out concert at the Qatar National Convention Center.
The ‘Music of Marcel and Rami Khalifé' concert will showcase the range and beauty of the compositions of the father-son duo who have both featured with the Qatar Philharmonic a number of times. The rich concert repertoire will highlight Marcel Khalifé's Violin Concerto as well as other compositions includinng Ya Naseem el Reeh (Breeze), Faker bi Ghayrek (Think of the other) and O Fishermen, Haila, Haila (Ya Bahriyyeh). The well-known Lebanese music composer, oud master and singer will play the oud and sing his compositions at tonight's show.
Marcel presented more than 30 albums of music and songs in addition to film music and music for dance, blending popular sense to oriental modernity. Named Unesco Artist for Peace in 2005, he has received many awards in the Arab World and internationally for his artistic achievement and humanitarian contributions.
He said his Violin Concerto he will be playing tonight ' revolves in the orbits of the violin and the oud altogether, and I have been careful to listen to the movement of time and to the cadences of the musical scene from the East to the West.
The concert also features Rami Khalifé's Stories No. 2 for piano and orchestra. Hailed as one of the most exciting young composers of the 21st century, Rami Khalife has created critically acclaimed compositions. He is best known for his re-envisioning of the classics and has featured as a soloist alongside some of the world's most prized orchestras.
Qatar Philharmonic will perform under the baton of Lubnan Baalbaki at tonight's show which will also see Vitalii Pervushyn on violin.
Driven by his passion for international and Arabic classical music and strongly engaged in creating a bond between the oriental spirit and the occidental culture, Baalbaki has been recognised as one of the most important young conductors in the region. He has worked with internationally renowned conductors and has taken part in international festivals and numerous engagements with renowned orchestras from around the world.
Pervushyn was born in 1974 in Nemirov of the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine in a family of workers. In 2000 he won the Davidoff Grant and became sub-principal in the Philharmonia of the Nations, and in 2008 was appointed to the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra as sub-principal violin.
