Qatar, Italy in talks to boost ties


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held a round of official talks with Italian Prime Paolo Gentiloni at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
Welcoming the Italian prime minister, the Emir expressed hope that his visit will contribute to developing bilateral ties in a way that serves the joint interests of the two friendly peoples.
For his part, Prime Minister Gentiloni expressed delight at the visit and stressed his country's commitment to enhancing ties in all fields.
He also expressed hope that the visit could act as a new phase of advanced co-operation and thanked His Highness the Emir for the contribution Qatar Fund for Development made to rebuilding earthquakes-damaged areas in Italy.
The session dealt with ways to boost bilateral in energy, economy and investment.
It also touched upon the latest regional and international developments, especially that of the Middle East led by the GCC crisis and developments in Libya.
The talks also focused on the counter-terrorism efforts of both countries and how to stop the financing of terrorism.
The session was attended by members of the official Italian delegation.
Earlier, the Italian Prime Minister was accorded an official reception ceremony on his arrival at the Emiri Diwan.
