UAE- Dh12 million road to ease Sharjah traffic

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah, in a bid to boost traffic flow, has developed the major road leading to the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) premises in the busy Muwaileh area.

The road is part of a mega project spanning several roads that lead to the same place, said Sheikha Al Zuwein, contract manager at RTA Sharjah. "The construction and development works of the 2.9km long road stood at Dh12.2 million."

Al Zuwein underlined that the mega project, involving the development of several roads that lead to the SBA, spans the construction of a two-way major road. "The road, consisting of two lanes in each direction for a distance of 159m, shall connect the main entrance of the Authority premises with the adjacent Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road."

The project also involves the construction of a 340m long lane for reducing speed and a 290m separate lane for increasing speed, she disclosed. These additional roads consist of two lanes each, she explained. "Each of these is 7.3m wide and 1.2km long, with asphalt road shoulders; 1 metre wide each on both directions."

These are aside from car parking spaces, 180 square metres in area, along the external wall of the building, Al Zuwein elaborated.

The new road, meant to enhance public safety and security, is in line with the directions of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, she added. "The road development, done as per the highest international standards, will boost the entire road network of the emirate, for the public's benefit."
