Uzbekistan allocates funds for development of sports

More than 995.2 billion soums will be allocated for the development of sports in Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

The construction, reconstruction and overhaul of 167 sports facilities, in particular, 90 sports complexes and 77 swimming pools, as well as their equipping are planned to be carried out in the period.

Under the program, 153 children's playgrounds were repaired, 232 modern sites and a sports complex specialized in Olympic and national sports in Nukus were put into operation in 2017.

These data were announced during the meeting dedicated to the development of sports in Uzbekistan, held recently under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The country plans specific measures to achieve higher success in such sports as gymnastics, springboard, athletics, taekwondo, canoeing, cycling.

It should be noted that Uzbek athletes have won 1,413 medals at national and international sports competitions since the beginning of 2017, 483 of which are gold medals, 394 – silver medals, 536 – bronze medals.
