(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omantel League Leader Al Suwaiq outplayed Mirbat 3-1 on Monday night to continue its impressive run in the Omantel League as it notched up its ninth win and third in a row to extend its lead at the top of Omantel League after the tenth round of action.
The win helped Suwaiq garner 27 points and has taken a six-point lead over its nearest rival, Al Shabab, which edged past Fanja 2-1.
Meanwhile debutant Al Mudhaibi's dismal run continued in the top-flight as it suffered its seventh loss, this time, a 0-3 loss to Sohar, at the Seeb Sports Stadium. The defeat kept Mudhaibi, better known to be the hometown of Oman's football legend Ali al Habsi, at the bottom of the league with just nine points.
It was a disappointing night for Salalah-based clubs as along with Mirbat, there were defeats for defending champion Dhofar and Al Nasr. While Muscat stunned Dhofar 2-1 at the ROP Stadium, Al Arouba upset Al Nasr at the latter's home ground, scraping to a 1-0 win.
In the other two games, Al Nahda was held 2-2 at its home ground in Buraimi by Al Salam while Oman held Saham 1-1 at the ROP Stadium.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Mudhaibi's coach Anwar al Habsi said, 'We know that we can be better but we missed the services of two of our key players – Mohammed Qarawi and
Saddam - in the match. Also we do not have a strong bench strength. When a club is playing top-flight league, it is important to have a good bench strength. Unfortunately, we do not have and it has affected our display.'
'The league is still a long way and we will try to improve the results in the coming games. I have great confidence in the players and we will work harder to improve the results. We are not in a position to hire new players. We will try to get the best out of our limited sources.'
