Five rescuers suffocate while searching for missing in Gaza blast

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Gaza, Oct. 31 (Petra) -- Five members of the Palestinian civil defence department suffocated during search and rescue operation in a tunnel Israeli Occupation forces blew up Monday in a southern town of the besieged Gaza strip.

Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesperson for the Ministry of health in Gaza, said in a statement that the 5 civil defence personnel suffered asphyxiation while searching for missing persons in the tunnel blast.

He said they were taken to the nearby al-Aqsa Hospital in a light-to-moderate condition.

At least seven Palestinians have been killed after Israeli forces blew up the tunnel in the Khan Younis area yesterday.

The health ministry said the number of those killed could increase due to the large number of people still missing. Since 2008, Israel has launched three offensives on the Gaza strip.
