In one of the most innovative child friendly programmes of Birla Public School (BPS), students and parents of class 9 and 11 had two sessions of career guidance and counselling, one in class mode and the other one-to-one interaction.
BPS organises such interactions every year for its students and parents and this year the innovation is the one-to-one session.
It is very decisive and important that students and parents are guided the right way as they face the world indecisive and irresolute.
' When parents and students experience such predicament, the school comes to their aid showing them light into their future prospects taking up appropriate studies fitting the students taste and aptitude, said A P Sharma, Principal.
'It is important that we catch them young and guide them into right streams of study to fit in the right careers even as students are in grade 9, he further remarked.
Parents appreciate career counselling for high school students as the world is getting more and more complex and the jobs and their requirements more advanced and technology oriented.
The objective of these interactions was to guide the students on ways they could be more effective at their studies as well as how they could go about exploring their career interests.
During these sessions, an assessment was done of the students' academic and extracurricular performance with a view to identifying their strengths and weaknesses based on which customized strategies for effective studying were recommended.
Recommendations were also made on personal qualities and traits that could be developed in the students which would add to their strengths and support them in their future endeavours.
The sessions also uncovered the students career interests and ways were suggested to students to obtain more knowledge and a first-hand feel of the careers that interest them.
