Australia centre to be shutdown, refugees would not leave

(MENAFN) Legal action was initiated regarding the shutting down of a detention centre through refugees placed in Papua New Guinea in Australia. Refugees who are looking for shelter and arrived by boat are held by Australia in camps on PNG's Manus Island as well as the small Pacific nation of Nauru. However, it was deemed as illegal by a PNG court, thus resulting in closing the Manus Island centre which will take place on Tuesday.

Even so, asylum seekers were not entirely happy about the court ruling as they claim that the shutdown will violate their human rights through stripping them the access to security, electricity and water. As a result, several of the refugees are declining to leave.

It was notified by the local authorities that by 07:00 GTM electricity, drinking water and food at the center are to entirely come to a close. It was also warned that on early Wednesday, PNG defense authorities can possibly go into the centre.
