BDS Denounces Arrest of Activists at Moroccan Date Festival


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – The Boycott Divestment Sanctions () movement in Palestine has denounced arrests against its activists in who contested the presence of an Israeli firm at the international date festival in Erfoud.

BDS Palestine said in an official statement issued on October 29 that it "condemns" Moroccan authorities of local activists on October 28 for protesting against the participation of an Israeli firm, Netafem, in the international date festival held in Erfoud, southeast Morocco.

According to BDS, Net afim cultivates the dates which are exported to the "occupied" territories, such as the Jania village located in the center of the Cis-Jordan.

The anti-Israeli group expressed its "concerns" about the repeated arrests after peaceful protests against "Morocco normalization activities," which it says violated the right of citizens to express and demonstrate.

The group claims that the demonstration held on the sidelines of the festival was organized by activists of BDS Morocco, the local AMDH, the section of Annahj Addimocrati's party in Errachidia, the local branches of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), the Democratic Federation of Labor (FDT), Al Adl Wal Ihssane and the Movement of Unity and Reform (MUR).

The Palestinian National Committee for reiterated its call to Morocco to stop what it describes as the "growing official normalization with the colonizing state of , which is contrary to Morocco's historic position toward supporting the Palestinian cause."
