Jordan- RMS chief outlines services offered to Syrian refugees

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct 30 (Petra) –– Royal Medical Services (RMS) Director General, Maj. Gen. Muin Al-Habashneh, said the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army undertakes huge efforts to provide healthcare to Syrian refugees on the Kingdom's northern border.

In a speech at the MEDEVAC community's annual international conference in London, which was attended by directors of military medical services from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Ireland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Pakistan, Habashneh said the Jordan Armed Forces had sent spcecialised relief teams, including medical personnel, to help ease the plight of Syrian refugees.

The RMS role, he pointed out, was to receive and administer aid to refugee patients crossing the border from Syria and evacuate them to Jordanian public hospitals, if needed, in addition to a field military hospital operating at the Zaatari refugee camp, which houses over 100,000 displaced Syrians.

Habashneh said the Syrian refugee crisis had taken a heavy toll on Jordanian health facilities due to rising numbers of patients and high occupancy of hospital beds that placed additional financial costs, which overburdened the sector and exhausted human resources.

Participants at the meeting, which discussed a host of topics on crisis management and humanitarian medical evacuations, noted the outstanding efforts Jordan and its armed forces made to address humanitarian catastrophes and its success in managing the Syrian refugee crisis.

Habashneh held a series of meetings with heads of military delegations on the sidelines of the conference to discuss aspects of mutual cooperation with their medical institutions.
