Jordan- Fils Al Reef provides 93,000 houses in remote areas with power


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct.28 (Petra) -- Around 525,000 people, who live in 93,698 houses, in remote areas were provided, through "Fils Al Reef" fees, with electricity since 1999 till the end of July, at a total cost of JD114 million, an official source said Sunday.

In an interview with Jordan News Agency, Petra, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, revealed that with the help of money generated from fees in electricity bills known as "Fils Al Reef", his ministry has started implementing another project that aims to provide 26 poor families located away from electrical networks with electricity utilizing solar power, at an estimated cost of JD135, 408 .

The minister stressed the importance of the project in encouraging local investment and expanding contractors and local industries for solar energy systems sectors and thus revive the national economy and create more jobs for Jordanians in such remote areas.

Kharabsheh added that "Fils Al Reef", has also supported tourism sector by connecting some tourist sites, Makawar archeological site, southwest of Madaba, Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife in Jerash Governorate, children's park in Tafila Governorate as well as other tourists sites in different parts of the Kingdom with electricity, at a cost of JD207,000.

The project, the minister said, aims at developing local communities and create job opportunities for citizens living near these tourist sites.
