Shooting damages transformer, causes blackout in Northern Jordan Valley

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct 28 (Petra) –– An electrical transformer was damaged after a shooting incident by unidentified people in the Jordan Valley district of Northern Shouna, causing a power outage to 350 homes, according to the Electricity Distribution Company.

Director of the Jordan Valley electricity authority, Sa'id Obeidat, said security agencies were informed that shots were fired on the transformer in the Manshiyeh area of the Northern Jordan Valley, the latest act of sabotage targeting the power grid in the region.

He said recurrent shootings had "depleted the electricity company's efforts and its stock of transformers".

Several transformers have been targeted in recent shootings in the Southern Jordan Valley that plunged local communities into darkness.
