Rota concludes first phase of leadership training programme


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Reach Out To Asia (Rota) has concluded the first phase of its leadership training programme, Rota Youth Challenge, designed to develop the overall leadership, communication and community service skills of youth in Qatar.
Over the course of the four-day training, youths aged 16 to 26 years attended several workshops on a number of topics, including project management, leadership, team building, goal setting and project budgets, and were then tasked with applying what they learnt to set up Rota Youth Service Clubs.
Rota is a programme of Education Above All.
Saoud Abdulaziz Maki, a participant, said: 'I have learnt a great deal by taking part in this event. The workshops greatly polished my skills and cleared many concepts that are needed to build and develop my leadership skills - skills that are of paramount importance to youngsters and applicable in various fields and sectors.
The Rota Youth Service Clubs Leadership Training also intended to assist participants chart their career path, and prepare them to become qualified ambassadors of Qatar and Rota at international conventions.
Essa al-Mannai, executive director of Rota, said: 'This pioneering programme has helped many youngsters ever since it started back in 2009 to refine their leadership skills and lay the groundwork for a successful future. We at Rota believe that the youth of today are the leaders of the future and that they will someday represent Qatar in various regional and global roles, this puts a great responsibility on our shoulders to provide them with the skills and know-how necessary and to be effective and influential leaders in the society.
In the coming months, participants will attend several more training sessions that will fine-tune the skills they acquired during the first phase of leadership training. The training sessions will put participants through challenging real-life experiences, with the ultimate aim of inspiring and invoking change in their communities.
The third and final phase of Rota Youth Challenge will end in March 2018 at Empower, Rota's annual youth-led conference, where participants will be required to deliver their final project presentation.
