More than 70 food companies from seven countries showcased their products at the Food and Consumer Industries Exhibition that began today at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
The four-day expo, being organised by Qatar Chamber and Maraya Public Relations, was inaugurated by Qatar Chamber Vice Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar Al Kuwari.

Speaking after the opening ceremony, Al Kuwari said food industry is expected to see huge progress in the coming phase thanks to the flow of several major investments in the sector to meet the demand of the local market.

He highlighted the keenness of Qatari businessmen to invest in the sector. He also expected the country to witness a boom in this field over the next few years through the establishment of many food factories.

Organising such exhibitions helps in the exchange of expertise between local companies and international companies in the food industry, he said. This provides an opportunity for Qatari companies to learn about the latest technologies in food production. They also get to know about leading companies in different industries and enhance cooperation with them.

He noted that Qatar Chamber pays special attention to the issue of food security and urges business owners to increase their investments in food industries. The chamber has organised specialised exhibitions in this field to highlight the role of local factories and their development towards meeting the needs of the food market in the country.
Jaber Al Mansouri, CEO, Maraya Public Relations said the exhibition comes within the trend to activate the role of the private sector and the role of exhibitions in finding new opportunities and opening the way for food investments so as to reach self-sufficiency in all products.

He added that the exhibition comprises a number of leading companies from Turkey, Iran, Algeria, Tunisia and Pakistan in addition to individual participations from Ukraine, Lebanon and a number of other countries.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, a Qatari trading and contracting company signed a memorandum of understanding with an Algerian company specialised in the production of milk and other foodstuffs. According to the agreement, the Qatari company will import some of the Algerian company's 114 food products to the local market.
