Coalition states to discuss coordination, waterways

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Member states of the Arab Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen hold a meeting on Sunday for boosting coordination at the military and political and humanitarian levels among the allies.

Official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Saturday these states' foreign ministers and military chiefs of staff would discuss, during the planned meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, plans to enable the legitimate government spread its authority all over Yemeni territories.

The meeting agenda also tackles Yemen's unity, territorial sanctity, plans for facing threats against international waterways and halting Iran's intervention in domestic affairs of regional countries, said the official news agency.

Saudi Arabia commands the coalition in response to a request by the legitimate Yemeni President, Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi, with international support stipulated by the United Nations Resolution 2216.

The Riyadh-led alliance supports political settlement to the Yemeni crisis, according to a GCC initiative, outcome of a national dialogue and relevant UN Resolution -- all basically call for withdrawal of the Houthi militias from towns and cities, namely Sanaa, they controlled in fighting and consolidating Hadi's government as the legitimate leadership to rule the country.

Fighters loyal to Hadi and the coalition militaries have driven the Houthis out of the key southern city of Aden and some areas, but fighting as continued in various regions across the country. (end) nsa.rk
