Kuwait- Syria rejects JIM report on sarin gas attack in Khan Sheikhoun

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- The Syrian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs rejected on Friday the recent report of the Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) of the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The report that accuses the Syrian regular troops of using sarin gas in an attack on the opposition groups in Khan Sheikhoun area in the northern Idlib Province in April 2016, came as a result US and Western pressures, a source at the ministry said.

The politicized report poses an infringement on Syria's sovereignty, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) cited the source as saying.

The source, who spoke under anonymity, reiterated that the Syrian government is fully committed to the spirit and litter of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Syria no longer has any toxic chemicals banned by the CMC and considers the use of such weapons an immoral and condemnable act, according to the source.

Therefore, Syria strongly condemns the direct and indirect accusations in the JIM report that constitutes "falsification of truth and misinformation about what happened in Khan Sheikhoun," the source added. (end) tk.hss.gb
