(MENAFN- Gulf Times)
Qatar will soon open a military attache office in Los Angeles, Staff Lieutenant Colonel Nawaf bin Mubarak bin Saif al-Thani has told Al Jazeera.
"The upcoming office would further enhance the foundations of common understanding to face the challenges facing the region in the light of the many changes," he explained.
Staff Lieutenant Colonel Nawaf was speaking after the opening of the new headquarters of Qatar's military attaché office in Washington DC by military attache Staff Brigadier General (Pilot) Youssef al-Kuwari on Monday.
On the sidelines of the event, Admiral William Joseph Fallon, a former Commander of the US Central Command told Al Jazeera that the Gulf crisis has posed challenges to the joint efforts of the US and the GCC countries in fighting terrorism.
"A recent tour of the GCC region has enhanced my understanding of the Gulf crisis," he explained. Handling the challenges, which include the conduct and extremism of Iran, will be easy if all parties worked together, Admiral Fallon added.
The opening of the new headquarters of Qatar's military attaché office in Washington DC took place in the presence of a number of Qatari and US military and civilian officials. The Directorate of Defence Communication at the Ministry of Defence said in a press statement that the new office is part of a new approach to defence relations with the US.
The new headquarters of the military attache is expected to enhance co-operation and integration between Qatar Armed Forces and its American counterparts in fighting terrorism and extremism and maintaining stability in the region.
