    EXPERT ALERTS:

    ACA: Reform and Plan Modifications
    Jen McCormick
    Vice President, Consulting
    The Phia Group, LLC
"Even though President Trump was unable to pass a specific law to dismantle ACA, the piecemeal changes and regulations will have an impact on employers -- and their self-funded plans. Renewal is right around the corner and the healthcare discussion is getting even hotter. So many feel really uneasy about renewing without knowing what to expect. I'm hopeful that any change(s) will be implemented in a fashion that allows employers time to adjust."

'Thank You For Your Service': Helping Veterans Address the Ravages of PTSD
    Brian Anderson
    Founder and CEO
    Veterans Alternative
Untreated PTSD in the military population takes the lives of at least 22 veterans every day. With the upcoming release of the movie "Thank You For Your Service," Anderson is available to discuss how veterans can find the help they need to address the ravages of PTSD, as well as provide background on his own experience in the military and the trauma he experienced when he transitioned back to military life: "The difficulties common veterans have coming back is something that I recognize. One of the biggest challenges that I had coming back was adjusting to the civilian world. I would drive down the road and I would have images of my best friend driving in the car next to me. He was killed Sept. 29, 2010. I would have images of bullets going through my head and rage going through the door. We have a civilian populous that really doesn't understand what war is and what we've gone through. It's almost impossible to tell somebody what it is because they haven't been there and they haven't seen it. They don't understand it when we tell them something is wrong with us. We're actually not focusing on post-traumatic stress, we're focusing on post-traumatic growth. We're trying to replenish the comradery that's so essential to military service. We're training the mind, body and spirit so that we can utilize that wisdom from the battlefield to help our warriors serve our community better."
In "Thank You For Your Service," veterans return home with horrific memories and highly-charged emotions that, when not treated, cause aggression, violence and, often, isolation and depression in their newfound civilian life. The sad outcome is seen in staggering statistics of arrests, divorce and suicides by veterans living with super-charged negative memories of their deployment. Anderson, a retired Army Green Beret with 14 years of service, 33 months in combat and three Bronze Stars, is available for interviews. Since his retirement, Anderson has not only worked through the difficult transition to civilian life (with his service dog Hero by his side) but, as a result of his difficult journey, has formed Veterans Alternative, a nonprofit agency dedicated to bringing necessary services to veterans to improve the quality of life. He is located in Tampa, Fla.

How to Treat the Very Real Problem of Office Zombies
    Dr.Dave Sharar
    Managing Director
    Chestnut Global Partners
You may not be able to see it, feel it or sense it, let alone measure it, which is what makes "presenteeism" one of the most persistent and pernicious drags on workforce productivity. Battling a mental health issue, illness, injury, etc., can be a huge distraction; people check in for work, but are mentally checked out. This is becoming an even bigger problem with the rise of opioid abuse and its drag on employee readiness, says Dr. Sharar, research scientist with Chestnut Global Partners' Commercial Science Division: "While you're at the office, it's difficult to compartmentalize and it's hard to put these issues on hold. A manager may sense an employee is distracted, or it may be apparent in the decline in productivity, but addressing it can be delicate, particularly if you suspect it's due to a serious behavioral or personal issue."
Dr. Sharar is available to discuss the correlation between employee assistance programs (EAPs) and positive effects on presenteeism. Chestnut Global Partners and the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) recently covered this topic in their 2017 Workplace Outcome Suite (WOS) Report.

    Can Horror Films Cause PTSD?
    Dr. John Huber
    Chairman
    Mainstream Mental Health
"The intended purpose of a horror film is to scare the audience and keep them on the edge of their toes. However, everyone processes external stimuli differently, and some viewers may be traumatized watching these films, especially if they are children. Children are still developing their brains and can be in a place where the lines between imagination and reality are blurred. When a child witnesses graphic gore or murder in a horror film, they can experience trauma that could affect them for the rest of their lives. For individuals who are survivors of assault, sexual abuse or attempted murder, certain horror films may easily trigger them and further intensify their Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder."
Dr. Huber is available to discuss what types of horror films pose the greatest risk of inflicting mental trauma; how parents can talk to their children about horror films and reassure them that what they see on the screen is not what takes place in reality; quick psychological analysis of classic horror characters such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, or Michael Meyers; and more. Based in Austin, Texas, Dr. Huber is chairman for Mainstream Mental Health, a nonprofit organization that brings lasting and positive change to the lives of individuals that suffer from mental health issues.A mental health professional for more than 20 years, Dr. Huber is a clinical forensic psychologist and a practitioner with privileges at two long-term acute care hospitals.

Why We Need Life-Sustaining Cancer Treatments
    Robert Martin
    Founder
    Bridge to a Cure
"Every day, 42 families in the United States learn that their child has cancer. Every week, 38 children will lose the fight. The lack of life-sustaining treatment options erodes hope, and hope is a huge element of what is needed to make it through the worst of times. Opening the doorway of possibility to life-sustaining treatment can only have an upside."
Martin, a children's advocate and author, writes books with his granddaughter Keira Ely, including the bestsellers "The Case of the Missing Crown Jewels" and "SuperClara – a Young Girl's Story of Cancer, Bravery and Courage." Martin founded the nonprofit Bridge to a Cure Foundation to fund life-sustaining treatments for children suffering from terminal illness.

    Courage + Resilience = Triumph
    Anne Grady
    Author, Speaker
    Anne Grady Group
"I used to think courage and resilience were innate characteristics (like skinny thighs). You either had them or you didn't. But what I've come to learn, to appreciate, is that courage and resilience are skills and can very much be learned and cultivated. And whether we like or not, life gives us plenty of chances to practice. If we use adversity properly, we can become more courageous and resilient as a result. We can triumph over anything life throws our way."
Grady is an internationally recognized speaker and author. She shares humor, humility, refreshing honesty and practical strategies anyone can use to triumph over adversity and master change. Her new book is "Strong Enough: Choosing Courage, Resilience, and Triumph." She is also the author of "52 Strategies for Life, Love & Work."

Climate Change Is a Spiritual Issue
    Anita Sanchez, Ph.D.
    Author
"As a culture, even those of us who fully accept the latest findings in climate change science tend to think of it in terms of its effects on sea levels, seasonal temperatures, animal habitats, and human misery. While there's certainly nothing wrong with those and similar observations, there is one thing conspicuously missing from the way we think about climate change: It is also a critical spiritual issue."
Sanchez is a transformational leadership consultant, speaker, coach and author of the new book, "The Four Sacred Gifts: Indigenous Wisdom for Modern Times," available now from Enliven, a new imprint from Atria Publishing Group of Simon & Schuster. She bridges indigenous teachings with the latest science to inspire and equip women and men to enjoy meaningful, empowered lives and careers. With four decades of experience coaching and training executives and their teams in dozens of Fortune 500 companies, governmental groups and non-governmental agencies, Sanchez is an established leader in global organizational change initiatives. She is a member of the Transformational Leadership Council with luminaries such as Jack Canfield, Marianne Williamson and John Gray, as well as the Association of Transformational Leaders, the Evolutionary Business Council, and serves on the Boards of the Bioneers organization and the Pachamama Alliance. She resides in the mountains outside of Boulder, Colo., with her husband and son.

    Sex With Robots
    Ilona Selke
    CEO and Co-founder
    Living from Vision
"Consider the deeper impact of seeking this deeper connection with machines. We are at a crossroads here. If we keep going in the direction of the logical mindset, applying only our rational mind, we may walk ourselves into extinction. Our scientific world is taking us toward a much more materialistic worldview. There is a belief that we can transfer consciousness into a computer, as transhumanists believe. Robotics are on the rise, but if we keep going in that direction, who will be there to teach our children what it means to be human, or even to love? Surely not a robot. If we treat the soul as just another aspect of the body, we promote a world where God is dead. AI, cyborgs, and robots are the epitome of this kind of thinking."
Selke is an international bestselling author, seminar leader, lecturer and musician, as well as CEO and cofounder of Living from Vision. Over 30+ years, Selke has inspired thousands of people worldwide to discover the power of their consciousness and create a successful life. She has written four books, produced 25 music and meditation CDs and coauthored two books, one with Brian Tracy and one with Jack Canfield. Her new book, "Dream Big: The Universe Is Listening," offers real-life stories of transformation and practical tips anyone can use to shapeshift their lives from the inside out. Selke has a weekly TV program called "Quantum Living," has appeared on numerous television and radio shows, and has been interviewed and quoted in a variety of books and films. She is a well-loved speaker for Hay House Summit in America and Germany, as well as for a number of other prominent mind-body-spirit conferences. She is fluent in English, German, French and Indonesian. With her husband, Don Paris, Ph.D., Selke has supported new research into quantum physics through a tool called the SE-5 1000. The couple also built the Shambala Oceanside Retreat Center in 2007. Selke has spent more than 1,000 hours in the water with dolphins and written two books about the wisdom she has gained from her time with them. She and her husband divide their time between their home in Ubud, Bali, their retreat center on the north shore of Bali, and their geodesic dome house on an island in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

    Laurentine ten Bosch
    Founder
    Food Matters
"Cleansing is an age-old practice that dates back to Roman, Greek, Indian, and Native American cultures. It is a powerful method of eliminating toxins from your body and unhealthy habits from your daily life."
Documentary filmmakers James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch created Food Matters TV, a revolutionary platform that gives people essential tools to take charge of their health. When Colquhoun's father became chronically ill in 2008, Colquhoun and ten Bosch quit their jobs to co-write and produce "Food Matters," an internationally acclaimed documentary about the medical and healthcare industries. Their revolutionary multi-media hub, Food Matters TV, has become a leading resource in the natural health world with over 54 million visitors since 2008. Their latest documentary, "Hungry For Change" (2012), reveals how the diet and processed food industries are the enemies of permanent weight loss, vibrant health and natural living. Since its premiere in March 2012, the film has been viewed by more than 1 million people worldwide. Colquhoun and ten Bosch both studied at the Global College of Natural Health in Santa Cruz, Calif. The duo dedicates their lives to transforming people's health and believes that "your body is worthy of good care and no one is more suitably qualified to care for it than yourself."
