Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar), operator of the state's commercial and touristic ports, yesterday announced the launch of the 2017-18 cruise season with the arrival of luxury cruise ship Seaborne Encore at Doha Port with more than 500 tourists on board.
The current season, which runs from October 2017 to April 2018, will see the arrival of 21 cruise ships to Doha Port. Five ships of them will make their maiden calls to Qatar (TUI Mein Schiff 5, MSC Splendida, EUROPA 2, Crystal Symphony, Crystal Serenity).
The 600-passenger Encore is due to return to Doha Port later on April 11 and 24, 2018. Seabourn Encore is one of the world's newest and most luxurious cruise ships. It has 300 suites, all with private verandas and all offering complimentary butler service. These come in addition to the other facilities such as a panoramic fitness center, spa, showrooms, duty-free shops and many more.
At a speed of 15 knots per hour, the Seabourn Encore sails around the world under the management of the luxury cruise brand, Seabourn Cruises. With 12 passenger decks, length of 210 meters and depth of 6.5 meters, it is the largest ship between the company's fleet.
All ships scheduled for the 2017-18 cruise season will be in Qatar for the day arriving early morning and departing at 6pm for their other destinations in the Gulf region.
Mwani Qatar said it has taken all the required measures to ensure the success of the new season and to assure best services for passengers and vessels visiting the port during the season in coordination with its strategic partners Qatar Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Interior, and the General Authority of Customs. Mwani Qatar noted that the success achieved in the last season, 2016-17, has increased the attractiveness of Qatar as an important tourist destination in the region, prompting more international shipping lines to include Qatar on its main tourist destinations in the region.
This season will witness the arrival of two of world's largest cruise ships, the TUI Mein Schiff 5 (3,820 passengers) and MSC Splendida (4,000 passengers). This confirms Doha Port's status and its ability to receive all cruise ships types, following the great success achieved last season in receiving the giant cruise ship MSC Fantasia, Mwani Qatar added.
