India's World Cup hero Goswami to coach UAE youngsters

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Jhulan Goswami, the greatest fast bowler in women's international cricket, brought smiles to the faces of young girls on an unforgettable Thursday evening at the Shyam Bhatia Cricket Museum in Dubai.

Goswami is here in Dubai to attend a cricket camp at G Force Cricket Academy.

The three-day camp will only begin on Friday but India's premier fast bowler already had the aspiring youngsters under her spell at Bhatia's wonderful cricket museum.

Goswami, one of the only two players to have featured in India's World Cup final appearances in 2005 and 2017, now prepares to enrich the cricketing landscape of the UAE.

The highest wicket-taker in the history of women's one-day international cricket will pass on her knowledge to aspiring UAE players at the cricket camp.

Around 30 boys and 16 girls will attend the three-day camp, according to Gopal Jasapara, head coach of G Force Cricket Academy.

Tushar Arothe, head coach of the Indian women's team that reached the World Cup final in July this year, will also be coaching the UAE youngsters in the camp.

"We are honoured to have Jhulan Goswami and Tushar Arothe in our camp. It's a wonderful opportunity for the youngsters to learn the game from them. We are really excited about this camp. You know one girl has even come all way from Oman to attend this camp," Jasapara said at a press conference at the Shyam Bhatia Cricket Museum on Thursday.

Goswami said she was extremely happy to be a part of this cricket camp in the UAE.

"I came all the way from Kolkata to spend time with you girls. You know I have never come to this country before. But when I was invited by the G Force Academy and they told me that I needed to share my knowledge and experience with you girls here I immediately said yes. It's so wonderful to know that girls here want to play cricket. I will be so happy to help you with everything that I know," said Goswami.

"I really hope to see the rise of women's cricket in the UAE. I have always said that sports doesn't have any gender bias. Sports is something in which everybody can participate. It's not just about winning and losing. It's very important to have the sportsman spirit right from the childhood days. It's not that your child has to be a Sachin Tendulkar or a Shane Warne. But what they learn from sports will help them in their life."

During her glorious career, Goswami has set foot on manysacred places in cricket world. Among the places she has seen is the Bradman Museum in the Australian town of Bowral.

"The Bradman Museum in Bowral is magical. But today I have to admit that this museum in Dubai has left me speechless. I never expected to see such a beautiful cricket museum in the UAE. Mr Bhatia's collection is just unbelievable. He told me that he had watched all the World Cup finals. I admire his passion for the game and it is because of fans like him cricket still is alive," Goswami smiled.
