Jordan- King patronizes KAFD annual ceremony


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct 25 (Petra) –– His Majesty King Abdullah II Wednesday patronized the annual ceremony of the King Abdullah Fund for Development (KAFD), which was held under the motto "City of Entrepreneurship and Creativity", which included a display of the fund's achievements in 2017 and success stories of young beneficiaries from its programmes.

During a tour of the City of Entrepreneurship and Creativity Fair, the King took a first-hand observation of a number of KAFD-supported enterprises in the area of research and creativity by university students, funding small enterprises and using virtual reality technology in the service of archaeological and environmental heritage, development and community service.

The City of Entrepreneurship and Creativity, whose designs reflect the spirit of an ever-developing and growing city full of energy and stimulation, provides an incubator environment for creative youth that spurs them for innovation in business and societal entrepreneurship.

In remarks at the ceremony, KAFD Board of Trustees Chairman Imad Fakhouri said the fund's strategy is based on the fact that effective and productive participation by youth is an ongoing and cumulative journey that starts at the age of nine, during each of whose stages youth acquire, through the fund's programmes and initiatives, a variety of concepts, values, knowledge and expertise according to their interests and ambitions.

In this context, he pointed out that KAFD had in 2017 provided 65,000 opportunities for young men and women across the Kingdom, and the number is expected to climb to 100,000 in 2018.

KAFD, under the directives of His Majesty the King, adopts the approach of supporting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship and turning challenges into opportunities, he stressed, adding that the fund had this year provided support for nine new projects within the "talent at the service of society" initiative. These affect urgent and demanding issues in our society, including extremism on the internet and providing proper education tools for the blind.

He said Oasis500 Fund had invested the amount of JD4.51 million in 122 startups in the information technology sector and creative industries, which had later attracted JD33.6 million in investments and created over 600 direct job opportunities in the sector.
