(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct.25 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Agriculture Wednesday said that a shipment at Aqaba Port carrying 7,000 tonnes of potatoes will not be allowed into the country, as it did not obtain the necessary documents .
The Minster of Agriculture, Khaled Hunifat told Petra's reporter that Jordan and Lebanon enjoy deep and strong relations, adding that goods and commodity exchange between the two countries is going as normal.
The problem is only in potatoes that might be infected with diseases and become harmful to human consumption.
In a phone call with his Lebanese counterpart, prime minister Hani Mulki, explained that the problem with the potato shipment would be solved if it is procedural, highlighting that the shipment will be totally rejected and it will not enter the Kingdom if it is related to the technical aspects that might affect the soil and harm the product.
"Safety of Jordanians is a red line," Mulki stressed.
