WHO: new typhoid vaccine to be guaranteed effective

(MENAFN) The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a recent vaccine that is supposed to prevent nine-to-ten cases of typhoid fever. It is said by experts that the vaccine might actually have a "huge impact" on the 22 million cases, and 220,000 deaths caused by typhoid every year. It is also claimed to have a significant effect on children who are more likely to get infected.

The permanent elimination of typhoid around the world is anticipated through the vaccine. The infection that has been the source for losing lives is mainly caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria, its symptoms are summarized as: nausea, headache, appetite lose, constipation, prolonged fever and in one in a hundred cases, fatal complications.

It has been warned that the bacteria is contagious and can be passed through contaminated water or food, it is also most frequent in countries where poor sanitation and shortage of clean water are widespread, specifically in south Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Even though a couple of typhoid vaccines were proven to reduce the cases numbers, not one was licensed for children under two years old.
