Oman- MoH celebrates World Obesity Day


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Health (MoH) recently celebrated World Obesity Day under the theme, 'Treat obesity now and avoid the consequences later'. The event was organised by the Directorate General of Primary Healthcare, Department of Health Education & Awareness Programmes (HEAP).

The day is celebrated world over on October 11. MoH's celebration was held at the Omani Women's Association in Qurm under the patronage of Dr Noor al Busaidi, head of Oman Diabetes Association and head of National Diabetes & Endocrine Centre, stated a press release.

Dr Amira al Ridan, HEAP director stressed in her speech that the ministry believes in the importance of awareness to prevent chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, mental diseases etc. She also pointed out that obesity is currently considered as an age-related disease and a type of malnutrition and morbidity phenomenon, especially in the developing countries.
