Lower House speaker meets with Amman Governorate Council members

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Tuesday said that there is no overlap in powers between the Lower House and governorate councils, highlighting the need to work as one team, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He said that in case of any overlap of powers between parliamentary councils and governorate councils (decentralisation), the Lower House is fully prepared to cooperate.

The speaker added that although the experience of 'decentralisation' is new, there is 'no room for failure' and it must succeed. Ahmad Abdullat, head of Amman Governorate Council, stressed that cooperation between the Lower House and the governorate councils is in the public's best interest, pointing to the need to develop a framework of partnership between the concerned authorities.

For their part, the heads of committees of the Capital Governorate Council reviewed the challenges facing them, highlighting the 'insufficient' budget of the council, which amounts to JD35 million, according to Petra.
