Oman- ISM organizes Model United Nations


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Indian School Muscat organized its first in-house MUN conference on Thursday, 12th and Friday, 13th October 2017.

The Opening Ceremony began with the Director General, Krishna Nair of Class XI speaking about the precarious situation our world is in. It was followed by the Secretary General, Ananya Venkatesan, Class XI, who emphasized on the fact, 'We need to be the change that we wish to see in this world.' The Principal, Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, addressed the delegates about the importance of world peace. Furthermore, the opening ceremony served as a platform for the Girl Up Foundation, a UN initiative taken up by Indian School Muscat. About 350 participants participated in the ISM-MUN 2017 conference.

The enthusiastic delegates were placed in eleven committees namely- DISEC, ECOFIN, SOCHUM, UNHCR, UNFAO, UNCND, UNEP, UN WOMEN, WHO, WTO and the SECURITY COUNCIL. In these committees, the delegates discussed problems ranging from 'Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction' to 'Rural Poverty'. While the committee sessions were exciting, the crisis situations were exuberant. In fact, after two days of intense debate and conflicting country policies, the delegates came up with comprehensive resolutions.

The key note was extended by Mr. Vikram Singh Yaduvanshi , the MUN Coordinator of Indian School Muscat expressed his hope in the Closing Ceremony that the delegates would leave the conference as better and responsible global citizens. This was followed by the Awards Ceremony where the Dais members recognized the delegates who portrayed remarkable diplomatic skills.

The success of the six-month project is dedicated to the Principal, Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, Mr. Deep Wilson, Advisor to the Principal, Mr. Eskalin Gonsalves, Vice Principal of the Senior Section, Mrs. Geeta Chauhan, Assistant Vice Principal, Senior Section, Mr. Vikram Singh Yaduvanshi, MUN Coordinator, the Dais members, the Press Corps and each and every participant. The ISM MUN Committee extended special thanks to Mr. Saji S. Nair, Senior Vice Principal, Administration who provided all possible support to make this conference a grand success. Indian School Muscat looks forward to participate and host such conferences in the future.
