Oman- South Korea in a week: A peek into the country's heritage


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Embassy of Korea will present a culture festival titled, '2017 Korea Week' from October 31 to November 4.

The week will see showcasing of various Korean cultural events to commemorate the friendship between Oman and Korea. Some of the events that will be presented include the Korea Music & Dance Night, Korea Movie Nights and Taekwondo Competition.

Entries to the events are free, stated a press release. Korea Music and Dance Night: The Korea Music and Dance Night will be held at 7.30pm on October 31 at the American British Academy, Al Khuwayr.

The event is expected to be a good chance to enjoy the past and present of Korean music. Young and talented Korean musicians will present some splendid traditional music with unique musical instruments of Korea. A Korean tenor will sing beautiful songs ranging from classic to latest K-pop. A dancer will also present some of the elegant and unique movements handed down to Korea through centuries.

There will also be a special stage where Omani and Korean musicians collaborate to make a wonderful harmony. uKorea Movie Nights: The Korean Embassy will also present the Korea Movie Nights at 7.30pm on November 2 and 3 at City Cinema and Muscat Grand Mall by screening two popular Korean movies.

The first movie will be Ode to My Father, which was a big hit with ten million viewers in Korea. It depicts modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the dynamic life of an ordinary man. The second film, SORI: Voice from the Heart is a heart-warming story that will appeal to all ages.

The movie revolves around a robot that helps a father find his missing daughter. uTaekwondo Competition: Taekwondo is a martial arts form that originated in Korea and is an official event at various international sports events including the Olympics. Of late the number of people training for Taekwondo has been increasing in Oman.

Followed by the first Taekwondo Competition for Korean Ambassador's Trophy in 2015, the second Taekwondo competition will be held at 8am on November 4 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The event is co-hosted by the Oman Taekwondo Committee and the Korean Embassy. There will be a Taekwondo demonstration by a delegation from Kukkiwon, the world Taekwondo headquarters based in Korea at the opening ceremony at 11.30am.
