Shabab Oman II returns to grand welcome at Port Sultan Qaboos


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO)on Mondayhosted a grand reception at Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) to welcome the return of its vesselShabab Oman II after a nearly six-month voyage.

The reception was held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs.Shabab Oman II had sailed from Said bin Sultan naval base onApril 30to Europe.

It took part in various naval festivals and competitions winning awards such as Sailing Award, the Best Marine Vessel Award and the Best Ship Crew Award .

Addressing the crew members and dignitaries, H E Busaidi said, 'We celebrate today the return of the ship which spread the message of peace and harmony among people in the world. During its voyage,Shabab Oman II won many awards highlighting the efficiency of the ship's crew.'

Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Raisi, commander of RNO, said, 'We thank God for the safe return of the vessel which visited 14 countries.

'Shabab Oman voyages seek to extend the bridges of friendship and peace among nations around the world. They aim to promote Oman's tourism and culture as well as training youth on tall ships sailing, polishing their skills and promoting the spirit of adventure and competition among them.'

Several exhibitions were also held on Shabab Oman II when it anchored at ports. The ship's crew comprised 90 people including 54 sailors and 36 trainees.
