Qatar Academy Sidra (QA Sidra), a co-educational international school under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation's (QF's) Pre-University Education, celebrated International Day on Saturday with students, staff, families, and board members. International Day is an annual event organised by the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Largely organized by the families of the school, this year, the event celebrated the 37 different nations and cultures that are represented at QA Sidra.
QA Sidra's core values of kindness, respect, and relationships were in action as part of the International Day event. A large number of families participated by sharing traditions, food, and national attire, and engaged the community in activities, crafts, and stories that define their culture's identity.
Some of the countries represented included the United States, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Canada, Poland, Latvia, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Algeria, the United Kingdom, and Qatar. Shannon McCary, President of QA Sidra's PTA, said: 'The PTA is delighted to bring our community together in an event like International Day and showcase all of the amazing countries and cultures that make QA Sidra the wonderful school it is. The success of this event was attributed to the many parents and members of the QA Sidra community, who organised booths for individual countries. All students were given a printed ‘passport' that they had stamped at the various ‘countries' they visited. Along the way, they learned about each culture.
QA Sidra's Secondary Student Council also organised several activities for the younger students, including face painting, karaoke, football, and story-time. The day formed part of QA Sidra's drive to be a supportive community that engages and empowers all in the pursuit of learning.
