UAE- Amaf to build endowment projects worth Dh43m

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (Amaf) will carry out Dh43 million worth endowment projects in the next two years.

"The foundation is studying projects and initiatives, particularly for the 'Year of Zayed', promoting the culture of endowment in the society," said Tayyeb Al-Rais, secretary-general, Amaf.

All the mosques are in pursuance of the endowers. The only exception is Al Badr mosque which was built in Oud Al Muteena-2 via community contributions.

"Amaf is also carrying out a two-villa project at Hor Al Anz costing Dh2.2 million. These are added to the Bin Shnaf mosque being built at the Al Barsha South area against Dh4 million. The foundation is also building two attached villas at the Al Satwa area against Dh2.25 million and a villa at the Jumeirah-1 against Dh2.5 million."

Another project is a mosque for 1,200 worshippers at the Wadi Al Safa-2 against Dh10.4 million, Al-Rais said. "Five villas, worth Dh9 million, are also under construction at Al Garhoud area."

He said the projects are expected to be completed within 14 to 18 months. "When rented, these properties will secure good revenues for Amaf charity projects."

Amaf spent Dh5 million on five projects - for people with determination, Tayseer, Partner of Giving, Together for Giving, and Treatment - and is all set to efficiently chip in the 'Year of Zayed' initiative.

Al-Rais said that endowment should never be limited to building mosques. "Endowments are critical for building scientific research centres that dig for and provide affordable medicine for chronic diseases."
