Amman, Oct. 23 (Petra) -- His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on Monday checked on the final stages of Jordan's first mini satellite, which was designed and built by engineering students at the Kingdom's universities under the supervision of the Crown Prince Foundation.
During a visit to the Nanotechnology Institute at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, the Crown Prince joined in the installment of the last piece of the mini satellite, which comes within the foundation's Masar Initiative, aimed at directing youth towards space sciences and relevant research and providing them with satellite training and research and space mission design.
The satellite is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of next year for education and research purposes and to promote the Kingdom as a travel destination through transmitting images of tourist attractions and heritage sites.
In the Nanotechnology Institute, the Crown Prince recorded a voice message that will be uploaded to the mini satellite memory and transmitted in space, and can be picked by terrestrial receivers around the world.
The launch of the JY1-SAT is in memory of His Majesty the late King Hussein, the first founder of the HAM Radio in Jordan and holder of call sign JY1.
