DUBAI, 23rd October, 2017 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, Masdar, has announced details of its participation in the 19th annual Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition, WETEX, starting today in Dubai.

As a continuing Strategic Sponsor of the three-day event, Masdar will showcase its growing clean energy portfolio in the UAE and worldwide, including innovative projects in water desalination and waste-to-energy production. It will also address conference delegates on critical issues such as clean-tech innovation, renewable energy desalination options for the UAE, opportunities and challenges for the development of smart cities, and the next stage of urban evolution.

Commenting on Masadr's participation at WETEX, Bader Al Lamki, Executive Director, Clean Energy, Masdar, said, "Our global energy systems are witnessing a period of tremendous change, with the adoption of renewable energy and clean technologies continuing to accelerate. Thanks to its visionary leadership, the UAE is at the forefront of the region's efforts to integrate clean energy sources in a commercially viable way, while helping to mitigate climate change."

He continued, "Masdar is proud to be a strategic partner of DEWA, and to be supporting the realisation of Dubai's 2050 Clean Energy Strategy. Through platforms such as WETEX and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the UAE is catalysing opportunities for governments and businesses to work together to drive the growth of renewable energy, clean technologies and water sustainability solutions across the world."

Over the last decade, Masdar has been at the forefront of the renewable energy industry, and today has more than 2.8 gigawatts of projects in operation or under development globally. During WETEX, the company will be showcasing several projects at its stand in the Zabeel Hall 1, including the 800MW third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.

Other projects to be featured include Masdar's joint venture with Bee'ah, the Emirates Waste to Energy Company, which is developing the first waste-to-energy plant in the region, its cutting-edge seawater desalination pilot programme in Ghantoot, and Shams 1, the largest CSP project in operation in the UAE. Masdar's international portfolio incorporates projects in more than 20 countries, including the 30MW Hywind Scotland, which was inaugurated last week, becoming the world's first commercial-scale floating wind farm.

As part of the WETEX programme, a roundtable series on smart cities will present the opportunity to provide an update on Masdar City. The city is currently undergoing the strongest period of development growth in its history, while its Free Zone now hosts more than 500 organisations, including multinational companies and local start-ups.
