(MENAFN)A huge moon cave was found by scientists at Japan's space agency which said to be able to shelter astronauts from dangerous energy and wild temperature swings, officials said Thursday.
It was confirmed by the data taken from Japan's SELENE lunar orbiter that this cave is 50-kilometer long and 100-meter wide and is believed to be lava tube happened to be created by volcanic activity about 3.5 billion years ago.
This discovery was published this week in US science magazine Geophysical Research Letters.
"We've known about these locations that were thought to be lava tubes.. but their existence has not been confirmed until now," said Junichi Haruyama, a researcher at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
