Oman- The Royal Hospital holds symposium on the role of medical libraries


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Royal Hospital on Sunday started a symposium on 'Trends of Information Culture & Knowledge Exchange of Health Staff and Librarians Role'.

The two-day symposium has gathered 70 participants from medical libraries of various health institutions in the sultanate, stated a press release.

Asia al Tobi, head of Medical Library of The Royal Hospital pointed out that the symposium aims at developing a roadmap and strategies in order to achieve further cooperation between the health professionals and health information technicians.

It also addresses the challenges faced by health institutions in the field of continuing medical education, as well as highlight the role of electronic databases in enhancing the healthcare system.

Dr Saif al Jabri, director of Information Centre at Sultan Qaboos University stressed that the symposium is an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation and exchange experiences in the field of medical libraries, as it has attracted several international companies specialising in
medical databases such as EBSCO, TechKnowledge, Wiley and Elsevier.

The symposium highlights several issues including the role of social media, modern research and publishing methods in the field of medical education.
