Afghanistan- Nearly 3,300 rebels killed in 7 months: Army


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The Afghan military on Sunday said about 3,300 insurgents have been killed in the country's north and northeast and another 2,200 wounded over the past seven months.

A statement from the Afghan National Army (ANA)'s 209th Shaheen Military Corps said the rebels were inflicted the mentioned casualties during 45 clearing operations as part of the' Operation Khalid' in the past seven months in the northern and northeastern parts of the country.

It said 3,293 insurgents, including many shadow governors and dozens of commanders, were killed in the offensives and 2,222 suffered injuries.

About 457 other rebels were arrested and as many as 440 different vehicles belonging to them were destroyed, it added.

The 45 operations were carried out in Faryab, Jawzjan, Sar-i-Pul, Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar and Badakshan provinces.

However, the statement did not mention casualties to the security personnel and civilians during the months long operations.

There has been so far no word from insurgents about the military claims.
